GPS Basic Information
Get
to know the basic history and how it works the Global Positioning
System. Also known as GPS.
GPS or Global Positioning System is a fully functional Global
Navigation Satellite System. This system uses an artificial
constellation of 24 medium Earth orbit satellites. These satellites
transmit microwave signals, thus enabling a GPS receiver to determine
its location, speed, direction and time. This system was developed by
United States Department of Defense and was named as NAVSTAR GPS which
was given by Mr. John Walsh. NAVSTAR is not an acronym, as is widely
believed.
GSM Basic Information
GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) is a
digital mobile telephone system that is widely used in Europe and other
parts of the world. GSM uses a variation of Time Division Multiple
Access (TDMA) and is the most widely used of the three digital wireless
telephone technologies (TDMA, GSM, and CDMA). GSM digitizes and
compresses data, then sends it down a channel with two other streams of
user data, each in its own time slot. It operates at either the 900 MHz
or 1,800 MHz frequency band.
GSM is the de facto wireless telephone standard in
Europe. GSM has over one billion users worldwide and is available in
190 countries. Since many GSM network operators have roaming agreements
with foreign operators, users can often continue to use their mobile
phones when they travel to other countries.
